New Client to Agent Linking rules to consider when hiring your new BAS Agent or Bookkeeper
Did you know, that from 13th November 2023 the ATO introduced Client-to-Agent linking? What is Client-to-Agent linking and how does it affect your business.
When you decide to engage the services of a Registered Tax Agent or Registered BAS Agent, it is important for a business to establish a secure connection between the Agent and the ATO. The linking provides permission for your agent to view your business records and perform lodgements with the ATO (ie STP Submissions, BAS Submissions, Tax Submissions, arranging payment plans etc). The ATO has introduced this process to strengthen the security of online services and protect all parties against fraud and identity-related theft.
The Client-to-Agent linking process requires a business to nominate their agent before the agent can add you to their client list. The process applies to all types of entities with an ABN excluding sole traders. The ATO has provided a detailed overview of the linking process on their website, including why they are making this change and what you need to do.
To complete the Client-to-Agent linking process, you will need to determine your access to Online Services for Business. Once you have access, you can follow the step-by-step guide provided by the ATO to link your business to your agent. We can also provide you with a copy of the Client-to-Agent linking steps if you need help.
